We are sad to report the death of Danny McCarthy on Friday 21 st February, in Kingston
hospital. He was 84, and a great supporter of the club.
In the early seventies Danny, along with Hughie Arthur, ran the main bar in the stand at
Sunbury, know at the time as the New Building! He followed the 1 st XV to most of their
fixtures up and down the country and would be seen regularly at Irelands 6 Nations
matches. He was club ticket secretary during the seventies, taking over from the
legendary Brian O’Hanlon.
Danny lived in Earls Court at 1E The Mansions, a famous residence for newly arrived
Irish from both sides of the border, and a major recruiting place for players. He was a
quiet and generous man and will be sadly missed by the older members of the London
Irish fraternity
Funeral is on Tuesday 24th March at 3.20pm at Mortlake Crematorium, Richmond.
May he rest in peace.
