Wild Geese v Chinnor: Preview
This Saturday, 29th April – the final Saturday of the season – the Wild Geese face Chinnor at Hazelwood in National League 2 South: kick-off 3.00 pm. This will be yet another tough test for the Wild Geese, with Chinnor lying 3rd in the table and needing a win to have a chance of a promotion play-off place. More importantly, where do the Wild Geese stand in terms of their prospects of remaining in National 2 for next season?
Preview by John S Hunter
The situation is as follows. The Wild Geese are 13th in the league table with 51 points; Barnes are 14th with 50 points and Worthing are 15th with 48 points. However, let us assume that Worthing will defeat Exmouth (already relegated) at home, as one should. This will leave it to a head-to-head between the Wild Geese and Barnes to avoid the drop. Barnes have the seemingly impossible job of getting anything at Bishops Stortford, already crowned as the league champions. However, Barnes pulled off a big win last Saturday against Clifton, which suggests they are not going down without a titanic battle to the end.
One could go on with this analysis ad nauseam but the important factor to record is that the Wild Geese have hit a rich vein of form at the right time. To win against Henley at Hazelwood was fine but to defeat Redruth on their home patch was special. If we replicate those performances against Chinnor, there should be nothing but celebrations in the clubhouse afterwards. Your support on Saturday at Hazelwood is very much wanted for this defining moment of the season, and will be very much appreciated by the Wild Geese.
The Wild Geese squad shows minimal changes from last weekend. The team will be: K O’Sullivan, K Gibson, C Connor; A Evans, J Touma; S Moore (Capt.), T Bush, H Rowland; T Barker, P Hodgkinson; T Richards, B Meeson, B Kitching, M Killeen; G Owen. The replacements will be from E Fraher, M Bunn, G Drye, L Starling, T Eastham and K Miles.
