[quote_left]First ever League match for the U13A team[/quote_left]
Chiswick Rugby Club was the venue for the first London Irish U13A League match of the season, against Richmond. The teams looked evenly matched for the first ten minutes or so as the game was played almost entirely between the 22s. Soon, however, Irish started to apply pressure and Elijah ran in the first of his two tries (the second being a smart blindside pick and go from a scrum in the second half). Irish were now in another gear and after running in two more tries, Richmond were starting to look disheartened despite a try for them.
Halftime and the score was 5-17 with Irish looking gently confident. But a new Richmond came out after the break and scored a try almost immediately. This was followed by the opposition’s best period of the match when they applied concerted pressure on the Irish line that we did well to withstand. But two tries in quick succession from Eesa (who was top scorer with four on the day) and a long, long run from his own half by Ethan to score put the game beyond Richmond.
The home team deserved a consolation try right at the death of the game but were mostly undone by their poor passing in the backs that missed real opportunities for the left winger in particular.
