Redruth 46, London Irish Wild Geese 38

This weekend took the Wild Geese on the long trip to Cornwall to take on Redruth which most believed would be a tightly contested game in all areas.

This game saw the return of hooker Jack Cohen and backrow Joe Touma to the Geese bench both looking to make impacts when call upon.

The first half scoring began with a battle of the goal kickers both putting 6 points each before the hosts scored their first try, putting them 13 – 6 up. Outhalf Alex Seers added to his tally with two more penalties to bring the Geese 1 point adrift after 20 minutes. The Geese took the lead just before the break with a try from left wing George Owen coming from a blistering line by centre Charlie Broughton, with the supporting run by fullback Peter Hodgekinson, to lay off the pass to Owen for an easy run in to score, ending the half with the Geese in front by 4 points.

The second half began with a territory battle, but it resulted in the Geese letting in three consecutive tries to put them 15 points down at the hour mark. The Geese replied with a try of their own coming from some good patient play allowing Hodgekinson to put Owen in for his second try by way of a smartly place chip kick. Redruth returned the favour with another try to put their lead back to 15 points. However, right wing Reon Joseph put the Geese back within 8 to keep hopes alive of a win, but hopes were dashed again when the hosts ran their sixth try to put them back to 15 points up. Joseph again put the Geese back within 8 with only minutes left but, unfortunately the win went to the hosts and the Geese left with only try bonus point.
