The U10s rugby season finished on an all-time high. Following a brilliantly successful U10 London Irish Festival, 40 of the boys and girls along with parents and coaches traveled over to Frankfurt to take part in the Frankfurt 1880 Youth Rugby Festival. London Irish U10s were able to put 4 teams into the total of 23 teams from across Europe which competed.

The first day, Saturday, saw four pools with each London Irish team set against some challenging opponents. The boys (and girl) all supported each team when they played, and this fostered an incredibly strong team spirit across the London Irish cohort which continued into Sunday.

Sunday saw the play-offs of the pool games. All the teams played well and should feel very proud of their results. Highlights included London Irish VI drawing against London Welsh I, London Irish III drawing with USOMC Paris I and London Irish II getting the highest try difference in any of the games (11 to 0) against TGS Hausen.

London Irish I made it into the Quarter finals where they played against Berliner SV 92, conceding their first try of the tournament but winning 15:5. The Berlin boys then became London Irish’s biggest fans supporting them loudly and enthusiastically as London Irish I beat Paris Universite in the Semi Finals 15:0 and then won the hotly contested Final against Boitsfort (from Belgium) 5:0.

The day finished off with a mixed friendly game with Berlin, numerous shirt swapping and then parents joining in the game at the end. For parents and coaches alike the highlights were watching the children step up to the challenge of some difficult matches, the bonding between all the children and how they all lived up to the words on their t-shirts – ‘Together, standing tall, shoulder-to-shoulder’.

The trophy brought home reflects the work of whole of the U10 cohort, not just the 1st team’s success. If the children can build on this next season, we can all look forward to another great season.
