Sunday the 6th December was a momentous day for LIARFC Youth Girls; their first U15s game since the launch of the newly-formed Ladies and Girls section. And in true Irish style, we picked a formidable opponent in Welwyn! One of the strongest sides in the South and the National Cup Semi-Finalist last year. The LI girls were not phased at all and they stepped up and into the challenge magnificently.

The first 20mins saw Welwyn run in a handful of tries, and it looked like it was going to be a very one-sided game. However following a coaches talk at the first 20-minute mark, the second 20 minutes were a very different story. Tackle after tackle and hit after hit, Irish fought back only allowing three more tries. A massive tackle into touch by Tandia towards the 40th minute gave the girls a huge boost and by the third 20mins we were breaking the line and making metres! The positivity continued to flow and Welwyn were contained and pushed back again and again.

The final whistle saw a jubilant and excited squad leave the pitch knowing just how far they had come in 60mins of game time and just 12 weeks as a squad. They know that they will be a force to reckoned with as time goes on.
