Cinderford v Wild Geese: Preview

The Wild Geese embark on the toughest five consecutive Saturdays of the season on Saturday coming, 28th January, which they start by visiting the Forest of Dean to play Cinderford, in the RFU National League 2 South: kick-off 3.00 pm.

Cinderford must be the smallest town (the population is only 8,000+) to play National League Rugby but their town size is in inverse proportion to their pride in their rugby club, which was established over 130 years ago. They were only relegated from National 1 at the end of last season, after eight consecutive seasons in the higher sphere.

Preview from John S Hunter

This is yet another critical game for the Wild Geese, as they attempt to keep their head above water in the league table. This is probably not the best weekend to be playing Cinderford, as they come fresh off the back of a good away win at Taunton. However, there were signs last Saturday that the Wild Geese at their best, with their swift handling, running game, are a match for anyone. May the enterprise of the first half last week be continued, with the indiscipline of the second half being consigned to history?

Your support, for what is a crucial match, will be very welcome, as ever.

Some changes have again been made to last week’s Wild Geese squad. The team is: K O’Sullivan. K Gibson, C Connor; A Evans, C Haggett; S Moore (Capt.), T Bush, D Livett; D Grant-Anderson, O Clements; G Owen, S Cunningham, B Kitching, T Richards; O Turner. The replacements are: B Fowler, J Touma, R Courtney, T Barker, A Jones.
