[quote_left]What is Colts rugby?[/quote_left]
The Colts teams feature “older youth” players – from age 16 upwards. London Irish ARFC maintains three teams – U17, U18 and U21 – all managed by John Rafferty. These teams are an essential part of developing players who have left behind RFU youth rugby (U12-U16) and want to progress to senior teams. You could think of it as a Wild Geese Academy. Indeed, several current Wild Geese players have come up through this system.
[quote_left]How you can help us[/quote_left]
John Rafferty takes up the story: The summer months see managers and coaches at all levels of the club planning and organising things feverishly behind the scenes and this year is no different.
At senior level pre-season is well underway with increasing numbers of players putting in the effort that augers well for the campaign ahead. What is especially pleasing is the number of younger players turning up and taking steps towards the next level of rugby and demonstrating their commitment to our club. For this to evolve and continue we need to encourage more players into Hazelwood across all age groups.
The Colts section this year are running sides at Under 21, Under 18 and Under 17 and will be competing in the Surrey Leagues along with the National Colts Cup and are keen to recruit new players.
All new and prospective players are welcome and we actively encourage existing players to spread the word among friends who may me considering leaving their current club.
Don’t be afraid to boast, we have fantastic coaches and facilities and are one of the most successful sides in the south of England – spread the word!!
