[quote_left]The Bs played a friendly at home against Reading Rhinos [/quote_left]
A 1 minute silence was observed before kick-off for the atrocities in Paris
The gusty conditions and heavy rain meant that this was going to be a difficult encounter for both teams and it didn’t disappoint!
Against the wind in the first half, the Bs set about controlling the ball from the off and ensured we played in their half. 25 mins passed without score until super stand-in skipper, Andy Hallam, scored an unconverted try to give us a 5 point lead, this was how the first half ended.
The 2nd half, with the wind, should have been easier but our kicking game didn’t provide the required relief and so much time was spent in our own half. Nonetheless our sturdy defence held until a try by Shaun Batchelor gave us a 12 point lead and a bit of cushioning. The try scoring continued with another one from Chris Burnett and we looked good at 17 nil to close the game, but, of course, the Rhinos had other ideas. They scored 2 very quick tries and all of a sudden we found ourselves at 17 v 12 with 5 minutes to go.
[blockquote]Incidentally, John S Hunter has featured the Bs in his Hunter’s Extras this week.[/blockquote]
In true B spirit, we fought back and soon after the final try of the match was scored by Leon Orr to close the game of 22 v 12. Once again a fantastic squad performance gave the win to maintain our 100% record against a very spirited Reading Rhinos. The rematch in January promises to be another fine game but for now off it’s off to Ireland we go for our RAID this next weekend to play Clontarf.
Man of the Match went to the superb stand-in Captain Andy Hallam
Tries: Shaun Batchelor, Chris Burnett, Andy Hallam, Leon Orr
